Aptitude Test In Architecture
Part I Awareness of persons, places, buildings etc. of Architectural importance. Visualising three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings. AIEEE Entrance Exam Eligibility
Qualifying examination

10+2 or its equivalent from a recognized Board/University with a minimum aggregate of 50 % marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Those appearing in 10+2 final or equivalent examination may also appear in AIEEE for consideration of provisional admission.

Note: Only Indian students are eligible for AIEEE.
Age limit: 16-24.

The Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE)

The Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (popularly known as IIT-JEE or just JEE) is an annual college entrance examination in India. A total of fifteen colleges use JEE as a sole criterion for admission to their undergraduate programs. The fifteen colleges include the seven old and six new (2008) Indian Institutes of Technology, IT-BHU Varanasi, and ISM Dhanbad. Starting in 2007, newly established institutions such as Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal & Thiruvananthapuram, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Indian Institute of Maritime Studies, Mumbai and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Raebarely Uttar Pradesh are also admitting students through the JEE (Extended Merit List). The exam is conducted by the various IITs by a policy of rotation. It is one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in the world with a success rate of around 1 in 45.

The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3 hours duration, which contains 60 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of only multiple choice objective questions. Each question will have four choices for the answer. Only one choice will be correct. Candidates have to mark the correct choice on an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question. There will be 1/3rd deduction for each wrong answers.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The GATE committee, which comprises representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results.

GATE is conducted through the constitution of eight zones. The zones and the corresponding administrative institutes are:

Zone 2 - Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
Zone 3 - Indian Institute of Technology Delhi
Zone 4 - Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati
Zone 5 - Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur

Zone 7 - Indian Institute of Technology Madras
Zone 8 - Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

GATE Qualification
Admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/ institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy or Master’s degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications are eligible for Master/ Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy, who may be seeking scholarship/ assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes. Some institutions specify GATE as the mandatory qualification even for admission of self-financing students to postgraduate programmes. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. Some government organizations prescribe GATE qualification as a requirement for applying to the post of a Scientist / Engineer.

GATE Eligibility
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE:
a) Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
b) Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
c) Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master’s degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/ Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
d) Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/ AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AME by ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

XAT Exam Structure

The XAT is a two-hour duration paper, with number of questions being 200. The paper divided into following 3 sections with sectional timings being enforced

In the last 20-min you are expected to write a 250 – 300 word essay with topics ranging from those of social relevance to propositions to abstract.

Questions in CAT can be classified as follows
1. Verbal ability and reasoning – covers i) vocabulary based questions like "synonym - antonym" , fill in the blank with the appropriate word etc. ii) English Usage / Grammar – Questions on Sentence correction (SC) also there is an alternative A set of 4 sentences were given and you had to find out how many out of the 4 sentences were gramatically correct iii) Verbal Reasoning questions like rearranging sentences of a paragraph, Fact Inference Judgement questions etc.

2. Reading Comprehension - Covers passages on social or historical issue, scientific phenomenon, business related passages, topic related to entertainment, sports, leisure, etc.

3. Quantitative skills - Broadly categorized as Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry CAT typically tests a student's quantitative ability from over 25 topics. Topics like Number Systems and Number Theory , Percentages, Profit and Loss, Simple & Compound Interest , Speed, Time and Distance, Pipes and Cisterns, Races, Averages, Ratio, Proportion, Mixtures and Alligations, Linear and Quadratic Equation, Logarithm, Progressions - AP, GP, HP, Binomial Theorem, Inequalities, Permutation & Combination, Probability, Function, Set Theory, Geometry, Co ordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Mensuration etc

4. Data Intrepretation section - In these questions data is presented either in the form of a table or a bar chart or a pie chart or a line graph or as a combination of one of these formats. Following each of these data presentations, there will be 4 to 6 questions. You are expected to answer the questions by interpreting the data given in the table or graph. Here is a sample data interpretation question. And Data Sufficiency (DS) - Every Data Sufficiency problem consists of a question followed by two statements. You have to decide NOT WHAT THE ANSWER IS, BUT WHETHER THE QUESTION CAN BE ANSWERED based on the information given in the two statements.

Category II (NET Qualified candidates): Candidates who have qualified for Junior Research Fellowship through CSIR/UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) examination are eligible to apply separately in the prescribed form under this category. Candidates shall have to appear for an interview and their selection will depend on their performance in the interview. Candidates who have appeared in the CSIR/UGC NET examination but results awaited may also apply under this category. However, such candidates will be interviewed upon submission of a valid proof of having qualified for or awarded the JRF certificate at the time of interview. Moreover, only candidates with valid proof of JRF qualification would be provided permissible travelling allowance for attending interview. Please note that candidates who have been awarded "Lecturership" in the CSIR/UGC examination are not eligible and will not be interviewed.

Duration of Course: The course work shall be completed within first two consecutive semesters and the dissertation in the subsequent third and fourth semesters.

Credit Requirements: No student admitted to the programme shall be eligible for the award of M.Tech. degree unless he/she secures 50 credits in all out of which at least 30 credits shall be for course work, 5 credits for seminar and 15 credits for the dissertation.

(iii) MCA (Master of Computer Applications)
This three-year programme is designed to provide necessary theoretical background and practical experience in Computer Science and Applications to meet the growing manpower requirements in automatic computing.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships of the value of Rs.600/- per month will be awarded during the fifth and sixth semesters to those students of MCA programme who have met the prescribed grades/courses requirements.

(B) ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

(i) Direct Admission to Ph.D. Programme
Only those candidates shall be considered for Direct admission to the Ph. D. Programme who have —
a) obtained M.Tech., M.Phil degree of a recognized University/Research Institution with minimum Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 6.00 in 10 point scale/comparable standard where the grading is based on system other than 10 point scale. (b) at least 2 years research experience in reputed institutions with research publication(s) comparable to M.Phil. standard. In addition, they should have obtained Master's Degree with FGPA of 6.00 in the 10 point scale/comparable standard or equivalent percentage.
(ii) M.Phil./Ph.D. and M.Tech./Ph.D.: Master's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or Statistics or Operational Research or in any branch of Science or Bachelor's degree in any branch of Engineering or Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with at least 55% marks.

Admission to MBA and MCA Courses in Karnataka for the year 2008-2009
Pursuant to the issue of Government Notification No. ED 27 TEC 2008 for Admission to MBA/MCA for the year 2008, the Karnataka PGCET – 2008 is being conducted under the supervision of Central Post Graduate Admission Committee (CPAC) for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admission to the First year, First semester of full time (2 years) and part time (3 years)Master of Business Administration (MBA) and full time (3 years) Master of Computer Applications (MCA) courses, in University Departments and institutions affiliated to the following Universities- Bangalore, Gulbarga, Karnatak, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Karnataka State Women’s University and Visvesvaraya Technological University, within the State of Karnataka for the academic year 2008-2009. However, the Non-Karnataka candidates appearing for PGCET - 2008 are eligible for those seats available against the management quota of private professional institutions, in such cases where the institutions have surrendered their quota of seats to CPAC.

Eligibility: Admission to MBA & MCA courses shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree examinations with not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percentage of marks in the qualifying examinations shall not be less than 45%. Provided that for admission to MCA the candidate shall have passed Bachelor degree with not less than 50% of marks with Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science / Computer Programming / Computer Applications / Business Mathematics / Business Statistics as one of the optional or electives at Degree Level. Provided further that in respect of candidates who have studied and passed one of the subjects specified in the first proviso in the Pre-University Course with 50 % of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. However in the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST and Cat-I, 45 % of marks in that subject shall be considered for Admission. The candidates applying for part-time course in MBA must have worked for not less than three years in an establishment and must be working in an organization within a radial distance of 40 KMS from the institution in which the candidate seeks admission.

Admission procedure: 1) The written test will be conducted for MBA course between 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM and for MCA course between 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM on 15-06-2008 (Sunday) at various centers as specified in Brochure supplied with the application. 2) For both Karnataka & Non-Karnataka Students admission will be based solely on performance in written test (PGCET), then followed by counseling for seat selection as per merit.

How to Apply : The application can be obtained on payment of Rs. 600/- ( Rs 300/- in case of Karnataka SC/ ST and Cat-I, on production of documentary proof) in the form of DD only, drawn in favour of the Member Secretary, CPAC payable at Belgaum.
